Alleman’s tennis team made history on Saturday by claiming a sectional team championship in Freeman, Ill. This victory comes just one week after winning the Western Big 6 title, marking the first time Alleman has achieved both in the same season. The Pioneers’ 21 points were three better than host Freeport, with Geneseo coming in third with 16 points.
Two-time defending Class 1A singles champion Nicholas Patrick led the team to victory, dropping just one game in another dominant display. Despite his individual success, Patrick expressed his joy at the team title, stating, “It’s just a great accomplishment for our team. Everybody went out and played really well against quality competition.”
Coach Bill Allee compared Patrick to Michael Jordan, praising his ability to elevate the team to a title. Patrick’s teammates Dominic Reagan and Chase Baird also contributed to the win, securing a trip to the state tournament next weekend. The doubles team of Tyler Wilden and Nate Hein added four crucial points to the team’s victory.
Allee commended his players for their performance in a competitive sectional, emphasizing the significance of winning both the conference and sectional titles in the same year. The team’s success has been celebrated by fans and players alike, with the state tournament location and pairings set to be released on Tuesday. The Pioneers’ historic achievement has solidified their reputation as a strong and talented team in the world of high school tennis.
