Alpena High School Baseball Team Plays at Comerica Park
DETROIT — The Alpena High School varsity baseball team had a day to remember at Comerica Park on Friday. The atmosphere was electric as the players and their families experienced the thrill of playing in a major league stadium.
Despite a 7-1 loss to Chippewa Valley High School, the team and their fans were grateful for the opportunity. Parents, who have long supported their children’s baseball dreams, were filled with excitement.
Jodi Weir, mother of player Lucas Weir, expressed her gratitude for the experience. She said, “I thought it was an amazing opportunity. I think at one point in time every kid playing baseball dreams of playing in the major league, and these boys got to experience that. I hope they all realize that nothing is impossible. Reach for your dreams because you just never know what opportunities you may get.”
Coach Eric Mackenzie played a crucial role in making this dream a reality for the team. He meticulously planned every detail to ensure the players could enjoy this extraordinary opportunity. Mackenzie shared, “To my knowledge, this is the first time AHS baseball has played at Comerica Park. I am looking at keeping this a tradition and trying to get back there every two years.”
The day at Comerica Park was a testament to Mackenzie’s dedication to his team. Despite the logistical challenges, he ensured that the focus remained on the players and their enjoyment. Parents in the stands were in awe of watching their children play on such a prestigious field.
As the Wildcats showcased their talents and reveled in the moment, the day’s events at Comerica Park reinforced the importance of community and the pursuit of dreams. With Coach Mackenzie hoping to make this a biennial tradition, the future looks bright for AHS baseball. The players have much to look forward to after this unforgettable experience.
