According to UN Tourism data, international tourist arrivals in the Americas reached 90% of pre-pandemic levels in 2023, with a projected increase in demand for 2024. Amadeus data shows a 132% increase in searches for travel between May and August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, indicating a strong interest in travel to the region.
The top markets searching for travel to the Americas during the upcoming season include the US, UK, and Brazil, with North America leading in search volume. Popular destinations such as New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles are among the most searched for by travelers worldwide.
In terms of hotel occupancy, numbers are tracking at the same level as 2023 for the May to August period, but are expected to grow as peak travel seasons approach. The report also highlights specific insights for subregions within the Americas, including the top markets and searched-for destinations for each area.
Francisco Pérez-Lozao Rüter, President of Hospitality at Amadeus, emphasized the importance of data insights for the industry, noting the need for travel organizations to remain flexible and responsive to evolving traveler patterns. UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili echoed this sentiment, underscoring the value of market intelligence in meeting the rising demand for travel.
