Reading Time: 2 minutes

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the general availability of Amazon Bedrock in the AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region, offering customers the easiest, fastest, and most secure way to build and scale generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications and experiences. This new technology will support customers across India, including public sector organizations and companies in regulated industries, to innovate with generative AI and deploy AI workloads closer to end users for low latency needs.

Shalini Kapoor, Chief Technologist–APJ Public Sector, Director–AWS India and South Asia, stated, “AWS is committed to helping customers accelerate their generative AI journey from experimentation to production in an efficient and secure way. Our customers value choice; some prefer to build from scratch, while others prefer models tailored for specific use cases. We want to provide organizations in India with the performant, cost-effective infrastructure they need to build with generative AI.”

Organizations in India are already leveraging generative AI for various use cases, such as driving productivity gains, creating innovative user experiences, and reimagining work. Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service, offers customers best-in-class models and powerful model customization capabilities with enterprise-grade security and privacy. AWS also provides tools, resources, and training for responsible and secure innovation in generative AI.

Furthermore, AWS is investing in partner support programs, startup accelerators, and Large Language Model (LLM) development programs to make it easier for local organizations to build specialized generative AI applications. With the launch of Amazon Bedrock in Mumbai, AWS aims to help customers maximize the power of generative AI and increase their business process capabilities multi-fold.

Overall, AWS’s long-term commitment to customers and local communities in India includes plans to invest US $12.7 billion by 2030 into local cloud infrastructure, contributing significantly to India’s GDP and supporting job creation. This investment aligns with AWS’s goal of providing free cloud computing skills training to millions globally by 2025 through initiatives like AI Ready, offering AI and generative AI training courses for technical and non-technical roles.
