Amazon Fresh is lowering prices on thousands of grocery items

Amazon Fresh has joined the ranks of retailers slashing prices on thousands of popular items in an effort to combat inflation and attract more shoppers. The company announced that it will be reducing prices on over 4,000 items, including seafood, snacks, frozen food, dairy, cheese, and meat, with discounts rotating weekly.

Shoppers can look forward to savings of up to 30% on select items, with Prime members eligible for an additional 10% off already discounted items when ordering groceries online. This move comes as part of Amazon’s strategy to invest in competitive pricing and savings for all customers, both in-store and online.

Amazon Fresh, which has 44 stores across eight U.S. states, reported a strong Q1 2024 with $143.3 billion in revenue, a 13% increase year-over-year. The lower prices will apply to both in-house Amazon brands and national brands sold through Amazon.

This price-cutting trend is not unique to Amazon, as Target and Walmart have also announced significant discounts on thousands of items in recent weeks. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy emphasized the importance of having a perishables business and a physical presence to serve grocery missions effectively, highlighting the company’s focus on expanding Amazon Fresh.

With Amazon’s stock up nearly 50% year over year, the retailer’s aggressive pricing strategy seems to be paying off as it competes with other major retailers in the grocery space. Customers can expect to see more competitive prices and savings as companies continue to adjust to the current economic climate.
