Carleton College women’s tennis players Amelia Asfaw and Mary Hose are set to showcase their skills at the NCAA Division III Individual Championships in St. Louis. Asfaw, who missed the fall season due to an off-campus study program in Spain, returned in January with a perfect 13-0 record. She was voted the MIAC Women’s Tennis Singles Player of the Year and has an impressive 39-2 career record in singles.
Asfaw will kick off the singles bracket on May 25 against Caitlyn Ferrante from Wesleyan University, the No. 11-ranked singles player in Division III. If she wins, she will face either Sophia Kim of Johns Hopkins or No. 6 Sylwia Mikos of UChicago later that day. In the doubles bracket, Asfaw and Hose, who are 13-1 on the season, will take on NYU’s Dakota Fordham and Isabella Hartman.
Both Asfaw and Hose have been named to the All-MIAC squad in singles and doubles for the third consecutive season. Asfaw boasts a 25-2 record at No. 1 singles, while she and Hose have a 37-6 record as a doubles team. The duo was honored as the MIAC Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Year.
Tennis fans are eagerly anticipating the performances of Asfaw and Hose at the championships, where they will face tough competition in both the singles and doubles brackets. Stay tuned for updates on their matches as they aim for success on the national stage.
