Katy Perry bids farewell to ‘American Idol’ after seven seasons on Sunday night’s live finale. The top 12 contestants paid tribute to the singer by performing a medley of Perry’s hits, including “Teenage Dream,” “Dark Horse,” and “California Gurls.” Perry, who was enjoying a slice of pizza during the performance, ended the medley by jumping onto the judges’ table and giving a strong-arms salute.

During the three-hour finale, Perry also performed “What Makes a Woman” alongside competitor Jack Blocker. The winner of Season 22 was announced as Abi Carter, who performed “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie movie, leaving Perry visibly emotional.

In February, Perry announced her departure from the ABC singing competition. She revealed on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live that she would be leaving after the current season to focus on other projects, including a music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio.

Fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie were surprised by Perry’s decision but understood her need to pursue her own path. Perry had been a judge on American Idol since its revival in 2018 and has connected with the heart of America through the show.

Fans will miss Perry’s presence on the judging panel, but her departure marks the end of an era for American Idol. As she moves on to new endeavors, Perry leaves behind a legacy of memorable moments and talented discoveries on the iconic singing competition show.
