Reading Time: < 1 minute

The music world is mourning the loss of former American Idol contestant Mandisa, who passed away on April 18 at the age of 47. In a special tribute on Monday’s episode of the long-running singing competition series, Mandisa was honored by her fellow Idol alums Colton Dixon, Melinda Doolittle, and Danny Gokey.

The episode, titled “Judges’ Song Contest,” featured a heartfelt performance of “Shackles” by Mary Mary as a tribute to Mandisa. Host Ryan Seacrest shared a photo on Instagram with the three singers before the emotional tribute aired.

Colton Dixon, in an Instagram post, reminisced about Mandisa’s kindness and ministering spirit, describing her as the sweetest soul he and his wife had met on the road. Melinda Doolittle also paid tribute to Mandisa, sharing a selfie of the two smiling together and praising Mandisa’s ability to find joy in even the simplest moments.

Danny Gokey expressed his honor at being included in the tribute to his late friend Mandisa. The Christian gospel singer’s passing has left a void in the music industry, with fans and fellow artists remembering her for her talent and infectious spirit.

As the music community continues to mourn Mandisa’s untimely passing, American Idol fans can tune in to the show on Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC to see the special tribute to the beloved former contestant.
