Amul Support Brings ‘Manthan’ Back to Big Screen: Entertainment News Featuring Jayen Mehta and Nirmala Kurien

Indian cinema is making waves at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival with the screening of Shyam Benegal’s classic ‘Manthan’. Inspired by the milk cooperative movement led by Verghese Kurien, the film showcases the transformation of India into the world’s largest producer of milk and dairy products.

The event, hosted by Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, celebrated Indian culture, cuisine, and cinema at the French Riviera. The evening saw a lively discussion around the restored masterpiece, ‘Manthan’, with the Film Heritage Foundation sharing the film’s restoration journey.

Adding a special touch to the event, Jayen Mehta and Nirmala Kurien shed light on Amul’s significant role in bringing ‘Manthan’ back to the big screen. Jayen Mehta, the managing director at the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), highlighted Amul’s unique involvement in the film’s production.

Over 250 delegates attended the event, which also featured the unveiling of posters for the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and the save-the-date poster for the inaugural World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES). The evening was further enriched by a curated menu of Indian cuisine by Chef Varun Totlani and performances by singer Sunanda Sharma.
