Anambra school emerges victorious in national girls ICT competition for VR technology

St. John Vianney Science College in Igbariam, Anambra State, made history by clinching the national championship title at the prestigious National Girls in ICT Competition 2024. The team’s groundbreaking virtual reality project, M-Tag VR, wowed judges and audiences alike, allowing users to explore Nigerian landmarks and learn about diverse cultural aspects.

Immaculate Ebube Ikegwuonu, Camilla Anyadike, and Nweke-Nonso Oluchi, under the guidance of their coach John Onuigbo, displayed exceptional talent and determination throughout the competition. They emerged victorious at the state, regional, and finally national levels, outshining teams from all 36 states in Nigeria.

The girls’ success not only highlights their individual skills but also underscores the importance of promoting STEM education among young women. Immaculate Ebube Ikegwuonu expressed gratitude to their school for fostering their interest in ICT, while the school’s director, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma, commended the team for their outstanding achievement.

Idika Chidinma Ukpai, Operations Lead of Kodex Africa, praised the girls’ dedication and talent, emphasizing the significance of their victory in inspiring other young girls to pursue careers in technology.

The competition was a tough battle, with teams from across the country showcasing their innovative projects and skills. In the end, St. John Vianney Science College emerged triumphant, with Rivers and Lagos states securing the second and third positions, respectively.
