Anish Bhanwala’s Stellar Performance in Olympic Selection Trials Leaves Coach in Tears

In a remarkable display of skill and precision, Anish Bhanwala, a 21-year-old shooter from Karnal, shot a perfect five out of five on five separate occasions during the final of the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event in the third Olympic selection trials conducted by the NRAI. Bhanwala finished with a total score of 36/40, setting a personal best and securing a five-shot lead over Vijayveer Sidhu, who came in second place.

The performance was so impressive that it brought tears to the eyes of Anish’s coach, Harpreet Singh, a former CWG champion and silver medallist in the rapid fire event. Harpreet was particularly excited about Anish’s second last series, where he scored 4 out of 5 shots, despite narrowly missing the target with his third shot.

Harpreet praised Anish’s impeccable technique and timing, noting that the shooter’s ability to maintain stability and accuracy under pressure was truly exceptional. He expressed confidence that Anish, who won an Olympic quota at last year’s Asian Championships, is on the right track to secure a spot in the Olympic team for Paris 2024.

With consistently high qualifying scores and impressive performances in the selection trials, Anish is poised to make a strong case for his inclusion in the Olympic squad. Harpreet believes that with continued focus on refining Anish’s technique, the young shooter will be able to peak at the right moment and deliver a stellar performance at the upcoming Olympics.
