Anne Hathaway was requested to kiss 10 men for chemistry audition.

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Anne Hathaway recently shared a shocking experience from her early days in Hollywood, revealing that she was once asked to kiss “ten guys” for a chemistry read back in the 2000s. In an interview with V Magazine, the actress recalled feeling uncomfortable and pressured to participate in the audition process, even though she wasn’t excited about it.

Hathaway explained that she was told she was already cast in the role and was expected to make out with all ten guys during the audition. Feeling uneasy about the situation, she pretended to be excited and went along with it to avoid being labeled as difficult.

The actress emphasized that this practice was considered normal at the time, but now she recognizes that it was inappropriate and reflects a different era in Hollywood. For her new film, “The Idea of You,” which she also produced, she took a different approach to chemistry reads.

In the auditions for the film, Hathaway asked the actors to choose a song that their character would love and then engage in a short improv dance with her. This new method created a more comfortable and collaborative atmosphere during the auditions.

“The Idea of You,” based on the novel by Robinne Lee, follows the story of a 40-year-old single mom who falls for a 24-year-old international pop star. The film, starring Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, is set for a streaming release on Prime Video on May 2. Hathaway’s experience sheds light on the changing dynamics in Hollywood auditions and the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment for actors.
