Annecy Provides Exclusive Preview of Upcoming ‘Wallace & Gromit’ Movie

Claymation legends Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham are set to offer stop-motion fans a sneak peek at their upcoming Wallace & Gromit film at this year’s Annecy animation festival. The still-untitled feature will follow Wallace as he designs a “smart gnome” for the family garden, only to have it develop a mind of its own. With events spiraling out of control, faithful dog Gromit must step in to save the day.

Co-directed by Park and Crossingham, the film is based on a story by Park and a screenplay from Mark Burton, known for his work on Shaun the Sheep and Gnomeo & Juliet. The movie will premiere on Netflix worldwide, except in the U.K. where it will first release on the BBC. This marks the second feature from Aardman Animations featuring the beloved characters, following the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

In addition to the film screening, Aardman will showcase several puppets from the new Wallace & Gromit movie as part of an exhibition at the Annecy festival. Netflix will also highlight other animated works at the event, including Roald Dahl adaptation The Twits, Skydance Animation’s Spellbound, and the steampunk action-adventure series Arcane.

Moreover, Netflix will present the world premiere of Ultraman: Rising, an adventure feature based on the iconic Japanese anime, at the festival. The lineup will also feature works from acclaimed creators like Richard Curtis and Simon Otto, discussing their upcoming animated feature That Christmas.
