The Fordham women’s tennis team in Bronx, N.Y. recently celebrated their successful season at the annual End-of-Year Awards Luncheon. The event, held at Gerbasi Ristorante on Arthur Avenue, honored standout players for their dedication and achievements both on and off the court.
Director of Tennis, Michael Sowter, commended the team for their impressive performance throughout the year, which included making it to the A-10 Conference semifinals for the third consecutive year. Despite narrowly missing out on a spot in the final, Sowter expressed pride in the team’s effort and unity.
Among the award recipients was graduate senior Camila Baeza, who received the Spirit Award for her exceptional sportsmanship, leadership, and work ethic despite battling through an injury. Graduate senior Franny Shea was recognized as the Most Improved Player for her strong finish to the season, winning nine of her last eleven matches. Additionally, first-year player Anlin Xie was named Player of the Year for her outstanding performance, including a team-high record of 19 wins in singles.
At the annual Block F Dinner on May 1, senior Eleni Fasoula was honored with the team MVP Award for her impressive 18-12 record in singles matches and 16-11 record in doubles play. Fasoula’s contributions were crucial to the team’s success throughout the season.
Overall, the Fordham women’s tennis team celebrated a successful year filled with individual achievements and team camaraderie, setting the stage for continued success in the seasons to come.
