The iLembe Chamber of Commerce has kicked off its 14th annual Entrepreneur Competition, showcasing its dedication to supporting small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the district. The launch event featured Mozambik group of restaurants CEO, Brett Michielin, who shared his inspiring journey from a small 40-seater restaurant to a leading franchise with over 40 outlets nationwide and internationally.

Michielin emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and job creation, urging participants to be brave and financially savvy. The Entrepreneur programme has already made a significant impact on the local economy, supporting 278 community-based businesses with a 50% revenue growth post-participation and creating 261 new jobs.

In collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the 10-week programme offers intensive business modelling, tuition, and mentorship from accredited iLembe Chamber mentors. This year, the competition aims to attract the best SMME talent in the district, with 20 selected participants receiving critical business skills, mentorship, and funding support.

Entry forms for the competition are available for download on the iLembe Chamber’s website and can be collected from various offices throughout the district. With the support of partners like The North Coast Courier and Airports Company SA, the programme continues to empower entrepreneurs and drive business development in the region.
