Annual Report of Africa’s Regional Collaboration Centres Highlights the Strength of Partnerships

Regional Collaboration Centres (RCCs) have emerged as a driving force for climate action in 2023, paving the way for global progress and collaboration. The latest Annual Report showcases the pivotal role played by RCCs in advancing climate action tailored to the specific needs of different regions.

The RCCs have been instrumental in facilitating the implementation of the Paris Agreement through technical assistance, networking, and capacity-building activities. These activities have focused on developing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), long-term low emissions development strategies, climate finance, and the Article 6 emissions crediting mechanism.

UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in advancing climate action and improving lives worldwide. The RCCs have organized various events and capacity-building activities, engaging stakeholders and supporting projects under the Paris Agreement.

Each RCC has taken a customized approach to address climate challenges in their respective regions. From adaptation and resilience building in the Asia-Pacific to supporting agriculture in Latin America, the RCCs are actively working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Looking ahead, the RCCs have outlined robust workplans focusing on the next round of NDCs, enhancing access to climate finance, and addressing loss and damage. They will continue to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including youth, indigenous communities, and business leaders, to ensure a coordinated approach to climate action.
