Northwestern Women’s Tennis Team Makes Impact with Charity Shoe Drive

Fresh off a tough loss in the Big Ten Tournament, the Northwestern Women’s Tennis team has been making strides off the court with their annual charity shoe drive. The team collected a variety of shoes in good condition to donate to Soles4Souls, an organization that provides shoes to individuals living in poverty.

Team manager Maya Solomon expressed her excitement about the success of the drive, which was advertised through flyers and newsletters. The team even held a collection event during a recent lacrosse game, where the boxes overflowed with donated shoes.

NU Athletics Assistant Director of Community Relations, Rebekah Sigman, worked closely with Solomon throughout the process. This year, the drive was expanded to the Evanston community, with collection boxes placed at a local YMCA.

The team’s efforts paid off, with approximately 25 large trash bags of shoes collected. Sigman praised the team’s consistency and passion for giving back to the community beyond their sport.

Kellogg student and tennis player, Justine Leong, highlighted the team’s cohesion as a key factor in the drive’s success. She expressed her inspiration and pride in being part of a team that is dedicated to making a positive impact.

Overall, the Northwestern Women’s Tennis team’s charity shoe drive exemplifies their commitment to serving others and making a difference both on and off the court.
