Another Bali tourist scam surfaces

A tourist in Bali was caught on film confronting a money-exchange teller after claiming she had been shortchanged. The incident, which took place in Sanur, southeast of the island, was captured on camera and shared on Instagram.

In the video, the woman can be seen returning to the exchange kiosk to confront the staffer after realizing she had received less money than she was supposed to. Her male host can be heard scolding the money exchanger, pointing out the discrepancy in the amount given.

According to reports, this type of scam is common in Sanur, where the staffer counts the money in front of the tourist but quickly hides some of the cash before handing it over. The tourist is advised to count the money again before leaving the store to avoid falling victim to such scams.

This incident has brought attention to the importance of being cautious when exchanging money while traveling. Tourists are advised to look for up-to-date licenses from exchange kiosks or conduct exchanges at official places like banks to avoid being scammed.

In addition to money exchange scams, tourists have also been warned about skimming devices on ATMs. A recent case in Bali resulted in a woman being sentenced to prison and fined for using a skimming device to steal card information.

To protect themselves, travelers are advised to use ATMs within banks or trusted spaces, avoid machines on the street, and be vigilant for signs of tampering or suspicious features on the ATM. By taking these precautions, tourists can ensure their financial safety while exploring new destinations.
