Anthropic’s Claude receives lukewarm response on iOS in contrast to ChatGPT’s successful launch

Consumer interest in mobile AI chatbot apps seems to be shifting away from new players in the market, as evidenced by the lukewarm reception of Anthropic’s Claude app compared to the success of ChatGPT. Anthropic recently launched its Claude 3 model on iOS, offering both free and paid access to users. However, the app only garnered 157,000 global downloads in its first week, a far cry from ChatGPT’s 480,000 installs in the same timeframe.

While ChatGPT quickly rose to the top of the App Store charts, Claude struggled to make a significant impact, reaching only No. 55 on the top free iPhone apps list in the U.S. before dropping off the rankings entirely. The data shows that interest in Claude declined rapidly after its initial launch, with downloads plummeting from five digits to four digits within a week.

One key factor contributing to Claude’s lackluster performance may be the saturation of the AI chatbot market, with established players like Google and Quora offering their own AI-powered solutions. Additionally, the presence of third-party apps falsely claiming to be affiliated with ChatGPT may have diluted the brand recognition of newcomers like Claude.

As the mobile AI chatbot landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether new entrants like Claude can carve out a niche for themselves in a market dominated by established players.
