Anticipating the Apple iPad Event: What Can We Expect?

Apple is set to surprise tech enthusiasts with its upcoming “Let Loose” event on May 7, just a month before the annual Worldwide Developer Conference. The event, scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET, will focus on iPads, including the iPad Pro and iPad Air, as well as the long-neglected Apple Pencil.

Rumors are swirling about a potential M4 announcement, which could mark a significant change in Apple’s silicon release cadence. The move may be in response to Microsoft’s expected release of first-party, ARM-based silicon at its Build conference later this month, with speculation suggesting that Microsoft’s AI-focused silicon could outperform Apple’s M3 chips.

The event could also see the introduction of additional M4 SKUs, following the announcement of a trio of M3 chips just seven months ago. The iPad Pro is rumored to be the first device to feature the new chip, along with an upgrade to an OLED display.

In addition to the iPad Pro, a pair of new iPad Airs in 11- and 12.9-inch versions are expected to be unveiled, possibly with an M2 chip. The Apple Pencil is also getting some attention, with new features like squeeze detection, haptic feedback, interchangeable magnet tips, and Find My support.

As for Macs, the arrival of the M4 chip could lead to computer refreshes, though major additions to the Mac line may be saved for WWDC in June. The event promises to be an exciting one for tech enthusiasts, with live coverage available for those eager to follow the latest updates.
