Apple Responds to Huawei with Massive iPhone Discounts in China

In a bold move to combat the increasing competition from Huawei in the Chinese smartphone market, Apple has announced significant price cuts on select iPhone models. The discounts, which are available from May 20 to May 28 on Apple’s official Tmall site, offer savings of up to 2,300 yuan ($318).

This aggressive discounting campaign is a strategic response to the recent launch of Huawei’s new high-end smartphones, the Pura 70 and Mate 60. These releases have intensified competition in the premium smartphone segment, prompting Apple to take decisive action to maintain its market share.

The discounts apply to various iPhone models, with the 1TB iPhone 15 Pro Max receiving the highest discount of 2,300 yuan, while the 128GB base iPhone 15 model is discounted by 1,400 yuan. Apple’s previous discount strategy in February saw a 1,150 yuan discount, making the current campaign even more substantial.

The impact of Apple’s previous discounts in China has been positive, with a 12% increase in shipments in March, according to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT). This improvement comes after a 37% sales slump in the first two months of 2024.

Overall, Apple’s aggressive discounting campaign in China aims to boost sales, counter competition from Huawei, and solidify its position in the highly competitive smartphone market. With these significant price cuts, Apple is hoping to attract more customers and increase its market share in China.
