Apple Inc. is set to revolutionize the way users manage their passwords with the introduction of a new app called Passwords. This innovative app, part of the upcoming iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 operating systems, aims to simplify the login process for customers by generating and storing secure passwords.
Powered by the iCloud Keychain service, Passwords will allow users to sync passwords and account information across their Apple devices. Previously hidden within the settings app, this feature will now have its dedicated app, making it easier for users to manage their login credentials.
The new app will not only enhance the security and privacy of Apple devices but also pose a challenge to third-party password managers like 1Password and LastPass. Users will have the option to import passwords from rival services, further increasing the app’s appeal.
Passwords will feature a user-friendly interface with categorized details for accounts, Wi-Fi networks, and Passkeys, a password replacement feature utilizing Face ID and Touch ID. Additionally, the app will support verification codes and serve as an authentication app similar to Google Authenticator.
This announcement is just one component of Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference, where the tech giant will also unveil its artificial intelligence initiative. With features like notification summaries, instant photo editing, AI-created emoji, and an enhanced Siri digital assistant, Apple is set to impress users with its latest innovations. Stay tuned for more updates from the WWDC event on June 10.
