Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, organized by the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), has extended its application deadline for the 4th cycle of the prestigious award. With a total prize pool of USD 1 million, the award aims to discover sustainable and innovative solutions to combat water scarcity on a global scale.

The deadline for interested parties, including companies, research and development centers, research institutes, innovators, and youth from around the world, has been pushed back to the end of May 2024. The award seeks to incentivize the development of groundbreaking projects, technologies, and prototypes in water desalination and purification utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, hydropower, osmotic power, and geothermal technologies.

This initiative aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who is dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of water scarcity. The ultimate goal of the award is to find sustainable solutions that guarantee access to fresh water for underprivileged and vulnerable communities worldwide, thereby securing a brighter future for generations to come. By supporting Goal 6 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, which focuses on clean water and sanitation for all, the award aims to foster innovation and invest in cutting-edge technologies to aid less developed societies in achieving sustainable development.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award has garnered significant attention from institutions, research centers, and innovators, transforming into a global platform for the development of practical and sustainable solutions to the global water crisis through the utilization of renewable energy. In the past three cycles of the award, 31 winners from 22 countries have been recognized for their contributions. The award is divided into four main categories: the Innovative Projects Award (comprising the Large Projects Award and the Small Projects Award), the Innovative Research and Development Award (including the National Institutions Award and the International Institutions Award), the Innovative Individual Award (encompassing the Distinguished Research Award and the Youth Award), and the Innovative Crisis Solutions Award.

Interested parties who have developed innovative technologies to address the challenges of water scarcity are encouraged to register for the award before the deadline on May 31, 2024, at https://www.suqia.ae/.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award serves as a beacon of hope for communities in need of sustainable water solutions, and it is a testament to the UAE’s commitment to making a positive impact on a global scale.
