Arab League chief says aggression against Gaza marks a pivotal moment in the region’s history

The Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, made a powerful statement at the 10th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum in Beijing, calling the ongoing aggression against Gaza a turning point in the region’s history. Expressing frustration over the international community’s failure to stop the massacre, Aboul Gheit emphasized the need for action to halt the violence.

During the forum, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote address, highlighting the importance of China’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state. Aboul Gheit urged China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, to play a more significant role in promoting the two-state solution and helping establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Arab League chief emphasized the importance of regional stability and peaceful conflict resolution, stressing the need for balanced relations with neighboring countries based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs. He also reaffirmed the league’s support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing the commitment to the one-China principle.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, Aboul Gheit emphasized the success of the forum in promoting collaboration across political, economic, social, and development fields. He highlighted the significance of the first Arab-Chinese summit in Riyadh in 2022, signaling a new phase in Arab-Chinese relations and laying a strong foundation for mutual benefit.

Calling for the institutionalization of the Arab-China summit and regular sessions to enhance progress and cooperation, Aboul Gheit emphasized the commitment to implementing agreements and fostering continuous development in the relationship between the Arab world and China. The forum serves as a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding, contributing to the advancement of both Arab and Chinese societies.
