Reading Time: < 1 minute

Paul Babbitt, Jr., a beloved public servant and pillar of the Flagstaff community, was honored during a heartfelt Celebration of Life service on Sunday, April 14. Remembered for his calm demeanor, thoughtful approach, and dedication to public service, Babbitt’s legacy was celebrated by over 200 people at the Flagstaff City Hall complex, a place he helped create.

Babbitt’s impact on Flagstaff was profound, serving on the City Council and as mayor before representing District 1 on the Coconino County Board of Supervisors for nearly two decades. His contributions included the construction of City Hall, the public library, and Wheeler Park, as well as his efforts to preserve Buffalo Park and Dry Lake for future generations.

Family members, colleagues, and community leaders shared touching tributes to Babbitt, highlighting his mentorship, authenticity, and love for Flagstaff. Former Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt, Babbitt’s brother Charles, and cousin Billy Cordasco all spoke of his dedication to public service and his impact on the community.

Babbitt’s wife, Mary, reflected on his peaceful passing at their Clarkdale home, surrounded by family and listening to their favorite song. As the community mourns the loss of a great man, they also celebrate his enduring legacy and love for Flagstaff. Paul Babbitt may be gone, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
