Reading Time: < 1 minute

Ascension Wisconsin has confirmed that they are currently dealing with a cyber security event that has interrupted access to some systems. The unusual activity was detected on select technology network systems on May 8, prompting an immediate response from Ascension.

Patients at Ascension facilities have reported mixed experiences due to the issue. Some have had to reschedule appointments, while others have been able to keep their appointments with minimal impacts. One parent expressed disappointment at having to reschedule appointments for her children at the Ascension St. Joseph campus in Milwaukee.

Ascension has assured the public that they are working to investigate and resolve the situation. They have engaged a third-party expert to assist in the investigation and remediation process. The healthcare provider is also working with the appropriate authorities to determine if any sensitive information has been affected.

As a precautionary measure, Ascension is recommending that business partners temporarily suspend their connection to the Ascension environment. They will provide updates on the situation as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, Ascension’s care teams are trained to handle disruptions like this and are working to ensure that patient care delivery continues to be safe and minimally impacted. Patients are encouraged to stay informed and patient as Ascension works to resolve the cyber security event.
