Ashley Hunault Williams, a former track and field star at Alpena High School, is set to be inducted into the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame at this year’s annual banquet. Hunault Williams, a standout athlete from the AHS Class of 2007, left a lasting legacy at her alma mater with several school records that still stand today.
During her four-year career, Hunault Williams excelled in events such as the long jump, high jump, 100-meter dash, and 200-meter dash, earning numerous accolades and distinctions along the way. She was a four-time Most Valuable Player and Alpena’s 2007 Female Athlete of the Year, leading the Wildcats to Big North Conference championships in 2006 and 2007.
After high school, Hunault Williams continued her track career at Western Michigan University, where she achieved All-American honors and set records in the long jump. She also found success academically, qualifying for the NCAA Championship and earning a spot on the All-Academic Track and Field Team.
Despite facing challenges, including a recent battle with Stage 3 colon cancer, Hunault Williams remains resilient and dedicated to her sport. Her induction into the Hall of Fame serves as a testament to her perseverance and dedication both on and off the field.
Hunault Williams’ story is one of triumph over adversity and a shining example of how sports can shape and guide a person’s life. Alongside three other inductees, she will be officially recognized at the Alpena Sports Hall of Fame banquet, celebrating her remarkable achievements and lasting impact on the athletic community.
