European tech giant ASML and the Eindhoven University of Technology have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to invest 180 million euros in semiconductor research over the next decade. This partnership aims to address the growing need for skilled professionals in the chip industry and provide valuable scientific insights.
ASML, a key player in computer chip manufacturing equipment, has been facing challenges in expanding its operations and ensuring the availability of a skilled workforce in the Netherlands’ Eindhoven region. The Eindhoven University of Technology plans to allocate 100 million euros to establish an advanced cleanroom facility for semiconductor research, covering areas such as plasma physics, mechatronics, optics, and AI. ASML will contribute 80 million euros to this initiative.
University President Robert-Jan Smits hailed this partnership as the largest in the university’s history, highlighting its role in solidifying Eindhoven’s position as a “semicon hotspot.” The Dutch government’s investment in infrastructure improvements around Eindhoven further underscores the region’s significance in the semiconductor industry.
