Assessment Meetings on Progress of Agricultural Activities in Eritrea

The Ministry of Agriculture in Eritrea recently held an assessment meeting in Mendefera, in the Southern region, to review activities from the first quarter and discuss the five-year strategic plan. The event brought together over 129 individuals, including sub-zonal administrators and agricultural experts.

Presentations during the meeting covered key components of the strategic plan, focusing on areas such as land development, crop and livestock development, agro-business, and human resources. Heads from Ministry branches also reported on initiatives like water and soil conservation, dam construction, and crop seed development.

Participants engaged in discussions and adopted recommendations to prioritize productivity development, promote community-based conservation, and encourage the use of sweet potatoes. Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, highlighted ongoing efforts to boost agricultural production through various programs and initiatives, emphasizing the importance of conservation and crop diversity.

Governor of the Southern Region, Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, stressed the need for sustainable assessments and the importance of agricultural experts in the process. He also called for enhanced participation in the livestock vaccination program.

Overall, the meeting highlighted the commitment of Eritrea’s Ministry of Agriculture to improving agricultural practices and ensuring food security for all. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the Ministry aims to continue making strides in the agricultural sector.
