The Houston Astros have made some significant roster moves, claiming right-handed pitcher Miguel Diaz off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and outfielder Cooper Hummel from the San Francisco Giants. These acquisitions come as the Astros look to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.

Diaz, 29, had an impressive showing with the Tigers last season, posting a 0.64 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 12 appearances. He brings valuable Major League experience, having played with both the Padres and Tigers in previous seasons. Hummel, 29, also adds depth to the Astros lineup, showcasing his versatility in the outfield and at first base during his time with the Mariners and Diamondbacks.

To make room for Diaz and Hummel on the 40-man roster, the Astros transferred pitchers Luis Garcia and Penn Murfee to the 60-Day IL. Garcia, recovering from Tommy John surgery, has been a key contributor to the Astros rotation in past seasons. Murfee, who was claimed off waivers from the Braves, is currently rehabbing from a UCL procedure.

Astros General Manager Dana Brown expressed excitement about the new additions, noting the team’s commitment to building a competitive roster for the upcoming season. With the roster now full, the Astros are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting season ahead. Stay tuned for more updates as the team prepares for Opening Day.
