Atari purchases Intellivision brand, bringing together gaming rivals from the early days

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Atari, one of the world’s most iconic consumer brands and interactive entertainment producers, has made a significant move by acquiring the Intellivision brand. This acquisition includes purchasing the trademarks and certain games from Intellivision Entertainment LLC, which was in the midst of a revival attempt by Tommy Tallarico.

The Intellivision Entertainment LLC will now rebrand and continue its business of developing and distributing the Amico brand game console with a license from Atari to distribute new versions of the Intellivision games on the Amico console.

Atari plans to expand digital and physical distribution of legacy Intellivision games, potentially create new games, and explore brand and licensing opportunities to create long-term value from the Intellivision properties.

Mike Mika, Studio Head at Digital Eclipse, an Atari-owned game studio, stated, “Uniting Atari and Intellivision after 45 years ends the longest-running console war in history.” This move marks a rare opportunity to bring together fans of both Atari and Intellivision from the golden age of gaming.

The purchase includes the rights to over 200 titles from the Intellivision portfolio and the Intellivision trademarks. Phil Adam, the current CEO of Intellivision Entertainment, expressed confidence in Atari as a responsible steward of the storied Intellivision brand.

To celebrate this milestone, new Intellivision T-shirts are now available on Atari.com, with more Intellivision apparel and collectibles to come. The Amico video game console is currently under development, with the Amico Home gaming experience available on Android and soon on Apple iOS. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting partnership between Atari and Intellivision.
