The Georgia men’s tennis team’s season came to a heartbreaking end as they fell to Arizona State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Despite a valiant effort, the Bulldogs were unable to secure the victory, ultimately losing 4-3 in a closely contested match.

The match marked the final one for legendary head coach Manuel Diaz, who will be retiring following the NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournament. Diaz leaves behind an impressive legacy, with a record of 781-206, the most wins in Southeastern Conference history. Associate Head Coach Jamie Hunt will take over as the new head coach of the program.

Throughout the season, Georgia showed strength in doubles play, winning the doubles point in 12 of their final 13 matches. Ryan Colby and Thomas Paulsell were instrumental in clinching the doubles point in multiple matches, finishing the year with an 11-4 record together.

Despite the loss, there were standout performances from Filipe Costa and Ryan Colby, who both secured victories in their singles matches. Coach Diaz praised the team for their fighting spirit and resilience throughout the season, despite facing challenges due to inexperience and the loss of key players from the previous year.

Looking ahead, three Bulldogs will be competing in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournaments, with Paulsell, Blaydes, and Ratiu earning bids. The team may have fallen short in the NCAA Tournament, but their determination and talent will surely carry them far in future competitions.
