Atlassian Introduces Rovo, a DIY Chatbot Tool for Businesses

Atlassian, the Australian tech unicorn, has announced plans to allow businesses to create their own generative AI chatbots in an effort to prevent employees from sharing sensitive information online. The company’s latest artificial intelligence tools, including features to search databases and create “agents” capable of basic tasks, will be made available to Australian businesses through their new service, Rovo.

Atlassian’s artificial intelligence head, Sherif Mansour, explained that Rovo was designed to help employees find information hidden in internal documents and third-party apps. By creating their own AI chatbots using Rovo, businesses can suggest ways to use the information and potentially prevent employees from sharing sensitive business information with open AI platforms.

Mansour highlighted the increasing value of artificial intelligence tools for businesses, with over 30,000 firms trying their first AI services since December and reporting time savings on mundane tasks. He emphasized that AI tools could save employees up to 45 minutes a week, equivalent to one less meeting for an enterprise workforce of 5,000 people.

The news of Atlassian’s AI tools comes on the heels of Google’s release of its AI assistant Gemini in over 100 countries, including Australia. Research conducted for Google by Ipsos found that nine out of 10 Australians expected AI to transform jobs and industries in the next five years, with a majority anticipating a positive impact.

CSIRO AI expert Judy Slatyer predicted that 2024 would be the year many people try artificially intelligent software for the first time, with more than half already using AI daily. She forecasted that by the end of 2024, many individuals would have an AI-enabled assistant to aid them in various tasks.
