Attaining excellence in academics and athletics

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Aubrey Dorn, a recent graduate of McDonell Central Catholic High School, will always cherish the memory of winning the state basketball championship, calling it one of the best days of her life. Excelling in both athletics and academics, Dorn attended McDonell from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Known for her prowess in volleyball, basketball, and softball, Dorn shared, “That’s what I’ve grown up my whole life around. I really like sports. I just really like being on the field or the court.” Her favorite sport alternates between volleyball and basketball depending on the season.

The highlight of Dorn’s high school experience was winning the basketball state championship in 2023, where the Macks claimed their first WIAA state title by defeating Blair-Taylor 61-46 in the Division 5 state championship game. This victory came after the team had fallen short in the state semifinals in the previous two seasons.

Reflecting on her high school journey, Dorn mentioned the challenges of being a student-athlete, especially managing late games and homework. Despite the obstacles, she credits her teammates for their support during both the highs and lows of her high school career.

Dorn, the youngest of four siblings, is set to attend Viterbo University in the fall to play basketball and pursue a major in biochemistry. Her long-term goal is to attend medical school and specialize in dermatology. With a strong academic and athletic background, Dorn is poised for success in her future endeavors.
