The Class 5A girls tennis individual state tournament wrapped up over the weekend at City Park in Denver, with no Aurora qualifiers making it to the championship or third-place matches. Despite a strong showing from Eaglecrest, Grandview, and Regis Jesuit, all Aurora players were eliminated from top contention early on in the tournament.
One standout performance came from sophomore Otylia Martino of Regis Jesuit, who had a set lead in her No. 3 singles consolation semifinal match. However, Rock Canyon senior Lauren Vick staged a comeback to win the final two sets and secure third place overall. The No. 1 doubles team of Lucy Filippini and Brenna Radebaugh from Regis Jesuit also fought hard but ultimately fell short in a close match against Valor Christian.
Senior Elise Holt and sophomore Helen Adams of Regis Jesuit also came close to making the placing round but were defeated in three sets by a Ralston Valley team. Despite some early wins from other Regis Jesuit teams, including the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairs, all Aurora players were eventually eliminated from the tournament.
Overall, the tournament showcased the talent and determination of the Aurora girls tennis players, with notable performances from each school. While they may not have taken home top honors this time, their hard work and dedication on the court did not go unnoticed.
