The Aurora Institute Launches Annual State Policy Priorities to Transform K-12 Education

ARLINGTON, Va., April 25, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The Aurora Institute has unveiled its annual state policy priorities aimed at revolutionizing the K-12 education system to provide every learner with an engaging, future-focused, and empowering education.

The state policy recommendations put forth by the Aurora Institute focus on six key areas designed to reshape the nation’s K-12 education system to be more relevant, equitable, and effective. These priorities challenge lawmakers and education decision-makers to disrupt the traditional one-size-fits-all model of teaching and learning and unleash learning from the constraints of time and place.

Some of the key priorities include establishing a vision by developing a Profile of a Graduate, creating conditions for equitable learner-centered, competency-based education systems, transforming assessment systems, aligning accountability and data systems, supporting educators in a competency-based system, and redesigning learning experiences.

Virgel Hammonds, CEO of the Aurora Institute, emphasized that these policy recommendations enable state policymakers to pave the way for more equitable and effective K-12 systems personalized to the needs of each learner. The Aurora Institute works closely with governors, state legislators, education agencies, and other local policymakers to transform education systems, advance competency-based education, and promote educational equity.

Policymakers at all levels are encouraged to download the 2024 state policy recommendations for a comprehensive analysis of these issues and reach out to the Aurora Institute for further information and assistance.
