Austin will soon welcome a new women’s sports bar

The ATX Women’s Sports Pub is set to make its debut in Austin this fall, offering a unique space dedicated to showcasing women’s sports. Co-founded by Debra Hallum and Marlene de Plessis, the pub aims to provide a welcoming environment for fans to support professional female athletes in a typically male-dominated industry.

With a mission to change the narrative around women’s sports, Hallum and de Plessis are currently in the process of fundraising to bring their vision to life. So far, they have raised over $9,300 of their $250,000 goal, with the campaign set to end on Sept. 10.

The funds raised will go towards securing a permanent location, renovations, employee wages, and creating historic representations of women athletes within the pub. Inspired by other women’s sports bars like The Sports Bra in Oregon and Rough and Tumble Pub in Washington, the duo is excited to bring their concept to the Texas capital.

“We believe Austin deserves this,” Hallum expressed in a recent video, highlighting the importance of creating a space where women’s sports are celebrated and given the recognition they deserve.
