Australian institutions are interested in India’s vocational education and training sector

Australian educational institutions are gearing up to provide skill training to a massive workforce in India, focusing on emerging domains such as digital healthcare and renewable energy. Leveraging the strong relationship between New Delhi and Canberra, a 33-member Australian Future Skills delegation is set to visit India to build partnerships and business ties between institutions, universities, and corporations in both countries.

Australian High Commissioner Philip Green highlighted the importance of upskilling India’s workforce, stating that Australia aims to play a bigger part in India’s journey towards economic growth. With India expected to provide 25% of the world’s workforce by 2030, Australia sees an opportunity to contribute to upskilling in sectors like digital technology, healthcare, infrastructure, and logistics.

During their visit to New Delhi, Pune, and Chennai, the delegation will interact with Indian institutions and corporate providers to explore collaboration models for skills delivery. This initiative is part of the Australia-India Future Skills Initiative, a national priority program aimed at supporting skills providers, skilling institutions, and corporates in both countries.

Minister-Commercial and Head of Austrade South Asia, MS Catherine Gallagher, emphasized the importance of the delegation visit in connecting Australian vocational education and training providers with Indian learners and industry. She expressed confidence that the Australia-India Industry Skills Partnership Summit and Business Program will pave the way for meaningful partnerships and programs in the future, as both countries are more strategically and economically aligned than ever before.
