Reading Time: < 1 minute

Avon High boys tennis team is making waves in the Class M tournament despite a challenging season. The Falcons, who came into the season as three-time defending champions, faced tough competition early on, dropping matches to Darien, Hall, Glastonbury, and Staples.

However, the team has found their stride in the state tournament, winning 20 of 21 individual matches and securing a spot in the Class M championship game for the fourth consecutive year. Avon’s impressive performance includes a dominant 7-0 shutout win over No. 1 Ellington in the semifinals.

Led by standout players Liam Hovorka, Ryan Hovorka, and Vishant Kandilippi, along with strong doubles teams, Avon has shown their resilience and determination on the court. The team’s only loss in the state tournament so far came in a quarterfinal win over Branford.

With a record of 13-5, Avon will face off against No. 12 Hand-Madison (16-6) in the Class M championship game at Conard in West Hartford. The Falcons’ impressive run in the tournament has solidified their status as a force to be reckoned with in high school tennis.

Despite facing setbacks earlier in the season, Avon High boys tennis team has proven that they have what it takes to compete at the highest level and are determined to defend their title once again. Stay tuned for an exciting championship match as Avon looks to add another trophy to their collection.
