Kent State University at East Liverpool recently announced the recipients of this year’s prestigious awards. Brenda Wamsley was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her professional accomplishments and community involvement. John Mercer received the Friends of Kent State University at East Liverpool Award for his dedication to improving the community and supporting the university’s mission.

Wamsley, a Kent State graduate, has had a remarkable career in both criminal justice and nursing. She has received numerous accolades for her exceptional performance and academic excellence, including recognition from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Wamsley’s love for nursing led her to become a certified flight nurse, providing critical care in emergency situations.

Mercer, on the other hand, has been actively involved in fundraising and community development efforts. He currently serves as the senior gift officer for the Mercy Health Foundation-Mahoning Valley, raising funds to support healthcare programs and services. Mercer’s extensive experience in fundraising and community service has made him a valuable asset to the East Liverpool City Council and various other organizations.

Additionally, the Rehab Department at East Liverpool City Hospital was recognized with the Community Partner Award for its support of academic success and community outreach. The department’s staff of occupational therapy assistants and physical therapist assistants play a crucial role in guiding Kent State East Liverpool students towards successful careers in serving the community.

The annual awards banquet, where Wamsley, Mercer, and the Rehab Department will be honored, will take place at the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge. These individuals and organizations exemplify the spirit of dedication and service, making a positive impact on the community and the university’s mission.
