Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates have joined forces to embark on a groundbreaking renewable energy initiative, unveiling plans for three major solar and wind projects in Azerbaijan with a total capacity of 1 GW. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Baku Energy Forum, showcasing the commitment of both countries to sustainable energy solutions.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the country’s green agenda and the attractiveness of investing in renewables. Masdar, a strategic partner in renewable energy, will play a key role in the development of these projects.

The three projects include a 445 MW solar plant in Bilasuvar, a 315 MW solar plant in Neftchala, and a 240 MW wind farm in Absheron-Garadagh. These plants are expected to significantly contribute to Azerbaijan’s energy production, saving natural gas and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman of Masdar, and COP28 President, emphasized the importance of partnerships like these in achieving renewable energy goals. The collaboration aims to support Azerbaijan’s energy diversification efforts, create new industries, and stimulate sustainable economic growth.

As Azerbaijan prepares to host COP29 in November, taking over from the UAE, the focus on renewable energy and sustainable development is more crucial than ever. The partnership between Azerbaijan and the UAE sets a positive example for other countries to follow in transitioning towards cleaner energy solutions and accelerating climate-positive development. With over 300 companies from 37 countries coming together at the Baku Energy Forum, the momentum for sustainable energy initiatives is stronger than ever.
