Azerbaijan Climbs Seven Spots in World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Development Index

Azerbaijan has made significant strides in the global tourism industry, improving seven spots in the World Economic Forum’s latest Travel and Tourism Development Index. The country now ranks 56th among 119 nations, according to the State Tourism Agency.

The report, based on data from the end of 2023, highlighted Azerbaijan’s progress in key components such as business environment, safety, health, hygiene, human resources, and labor market. The country ranked second among CIS countries in these areas, showcasing its commitment to providing a conducive environment for travelers.

Azerbaijan also excelled in international openness, price competitiveness, cultural resources, and environmental sustainability, further solidifying its position as a desirable tourist destination. The country maintained its top ranking in the transmission of travel and tourism statistics to international databases, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and data accuracy.

Moreover, Azerbaijan was recognized as the safest country in the Global Terrorism Index, marking a significant improvement from previous reports. The country’s inbound tourism also saw positive growth, with advancements in factors like seasonality, data coverage, natural heritage sites, digital payment coverage, and mobile network infrastructure.

While Azerbaijan has made impressive strides in its tourism sector, the report also identified areas for improvement. These include increasing the number of short-term rental accommodations, boosting capital investments in travel and tourism, expanding air transportation agreements, and ratifying treaties related to biodiversity and environmental conservation.

Overall, Azerbaijan’s rise in the Travel and Tourism Development Index reflects the country’s commitment to enhancing its tourism industry and providing a safe and welcoming environment for visitors.
