B.C. court transforms unfaithful U.K. man’s ‘mistake’ into a ‘nightmare’

A British Columbia woman, identified only as E.S., has successfully obtained a court order demanding retroactive child support from a man she claims is the father of her child. The man, known as G.W., had previously denied paternity and cut off contact with E.S. after she informed him of her pregnancy in 2018.

Despite G.W.’s insistence that he barely knew E.S. and that the child was not his, a B.C. judge has granted E.S. the right to pursue child support from him in the U.K., where he resides. The order, issued in March, allows E.S. to seek over $100,000 in retroactive child support from G.W.

The court documents reveal that E.S. and G.W. had a brief relationship while she was traveling in 2018, resulting in her pregnancy. E.S. claims that G.W. is the father of her child and has provided evidence to support her case, including information from G.W.’s LinkedIn profile and salary data from his employer.

E.S., who is now a single mother raising a son with autism, has not worked since 2017 and relies on disability benefits to support herself and her child. The court has set G.W.’s child support payments at $1,957 a month, dating back to December 2018.

While G.W. was not given notice of E.S.’s application for child support and did not have the opportunity to present evidence in court, he will have the chance to contest the order in a U.K. court if E.S. chooses to resume communication with him.
