The News-Press has announced its All-Area teams for the season, honoring the top athletes in various sports. Coaches from local schools were asked to nominate and rank their athletes, which, combined with The News-Press’ research, led to the selection of the All-Area teams.
Among the standout athletes selected for the First Team in boys’ soccer are Mario Acosta from Oasis, Anthony Becker from Bishop Verot, Sami Bedoya from Mariner, Raul Blandon from Bishop Verot, Thomas Castano from Mariner, Elliot DeCosta from Fort Myers, Dusty Dwyer from Canterbury, Jack Krzeminski from Fort Myers, Erwin Navarro from Fort Myers, Issac Sandoval from Mariner, and Ryan Thompson from Gateway.
These athletes showcased exceptional skills and contributed significantly to their teams’ success throughout the season. From goal-scoring forwards to solid defenders, each player on the First Team made a significant impact on their respective teams’ performances.
Additionally, the Second Team and Honorable Mention selections highlight the depth of talent in the area, with many deserving athletes recognized for their contributions to their teams.
Fort Myers’ head coach, Chris Reid, was named Coach of the Year for his outstanding leadership and success despite significant roster turnover. Reid guided his team to a regional final appearance and the fewest goals allowed in the area, showcasing his coaching prowess.
