Babli stages impressive comeback to claim women’s 55kg gold at Federation Cup

In a thrilling final match at the Federation Cup wrestling tournament, Babli from Haryana made a stunning comeback to secure her first-ever gold medal in the women’s 55kg category. The 23-year-old wrestler from Yamunanagar district displayed exceptional skill and determination as she defeated Manshi Yadav with a score of 15-8.

Having only started wrestling four-and-a-half years ago, Babli showed incredible resilience on the mat. Trailing 6-2 in the match, she seized an opportunity to apply a leg lace and equalize the scores before the break. With the guidance of her coach Amit Kumar, Babli continued to dominate the match in the second period, extending her lead with another four points.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 50kg final, 19-year-old Madhuri Patel from Khandwa staged a remarkable comeback to clinch the gold medal by defeating Gunjan Sharma 8-7. Patel erased a five-point deficit in the second period, showcasing her determination and skill in the sport.

The Federation Cup tournament witnessed fierce competition among female wrestlers from various states, with athletes like Shivani Sharma, Nitika, and Sarika emerging victorious in their respective weight categories.
