In a heartbreaking turn of events, a baby girl named Sabreen al-Rouh, who was delivered from her dying mother’s womb in a Gaza hospital following an Israeli airstrike, has tragically passed away after just a few days of life. The doctor who was caring for her, Doctor Mohammad Salama, shared the devastating news on Friday.

Sabreen’s mother, Sabreen al-Sakani (al-Sheikh), was seriously injured during the Israeli strike on their family home in Rafah, Gaza. Her husband Shukri and their three-year-old daughter Malak were killed in the attack. Despite the efforts of doctors at the Emirati Hospital in Rafah, Sabreen al-Sakani succumbed to her injuries. However, they were able to save the baby by delivering her via Caesarean section.

The newborn baby girl faced respiratory problems and had a weak immune system, which ultimately led to her passing on Thursday. Doctor Salama expressed his sorrow over the loss, stating, “She was born while her respiratory system wasn’t mature, and her immune system was very weak and that is what led to her death. She joined her family as a martyr.”

The family’s uncle, Rami al-Sheikh Jouda, mourned the loss of the infant and the other family members who perished in the tragic incident. He reflected on the devastation, saying, “Rouh is gone, my brother, his wife and daughter are gone, his brother-in-law and the house that used to bring us together are gone.”

The loss of Sabreen al-Rouh serves as a poignant reminder of the toll that the ongoing conflict in Gaza has taken on innocent civilians, particularly women and children. The family’s story is a heartbreaking example of the devastating impact of war on the lives of ordinary people caught in the crossfire.
