Badger boys tennis team clinches sole possession of conference championship

The Lake Geneva Badger boys tennis team has reclaimed their spot at the top after a stellar performance at the Southern Lakes Conference Championships. The team secured first place at the tournament held at Westosha Central High School on May 15.

Having previously shared the conference title in 2023, the Badger team came back stronger in 2024, going undefeated in the regular season. Head coach Paul Lauterbach expressed his pride in the team’s performance, highlighting victories in various categories including singles and doubles matches.

Despite facing challenges like the absence of key player Rex Chapman due to injury, the team rallied together with standout performances from players like Anderson Greenberg and Will Spende. Greenberg, a freshman, filled in for Chapman and clinched victory in the conference tournament, showcasing the team’s depth and resilience.

Now, with the conference championship secured, the Badgers are setting their sights on the next goal: competing at Sectionals to earn a spot in the state championships. Lauterbach commended the team’s dedication and teamwork, emphasizing the importance of each player stepping up in crucial moments.

On the other hand, the Big Foot/Williams Bay boys tennis team put up a strong fight at the Rock Valley Conference Tournament, with players like Jack Kammermeier and the doubles team of Jackson Hirn and Michael Pecht delivering impressive performances.

Overall, both teams demonstrated skill, determination, and sportsmanship, setting the stage for continued success in future competitions.
