Blake Ball, a teacher at Lahaina Intermediate School, is gearing up to run in the Lahaina Town Memorial Run this Sunday. Despite facing personal challenges, including losing his home and his father’s house in a wildfire, Ball is determined to participate in the event.

Ball, who has previously run in two Honolulu Marathons, will be running the 10K race at the memorial run. The event, which will also include a half marathon and a 5K, has been organized to honor the community of Lahaina and bring people together in the wake of the devastating wildfire.

In addition to his teaching job, Ball also works as a server at Duke’s and coaches the Napili Surfriders youth wrestling team. Taking on the role of head coach for the wrestling team, Ball is committed to supporting the young athletes in his community.

Despite not having enough time to train for the half marathon, Ball is excited to run the 10K and show his support for Lahaina. He believes that events like the memorial run help to bring the community together and provide a sense of hope and unity during challenging times.

Race director Jim Lynch expressed his gratitude for runners like Ball who are participating in the event and showing their support for the community. The memorial run will serve as a symbol of resilience and solidarity for the people of Lahaina as they continue to rebuild and recover from the wildfire.
