Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made shocking allegations of a conspiracy to create a Christian state similar to East Timor by partitioning parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar. She claimed that she was offered an easy reelection in January if she permitted a foreign nation to establish an airbase in Bangladesh, without disclosing the country’s name.
During a meeting on Thursday, Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League president, stated, “Like East Timor, they will carve out a Christian country taking parts of Bangladesh [Chattogram] and Myanmar with a base in the Bay of Bengal.” This revelation came during the 14-party alliance’s first meeting with the Awami League president after the polls.
Sheikh Hasina vowed to resist any attempts to disrupt regional stability and combat such conspiracies. She mentioned that the offer came from a white man, without revealing any further details. She expressed determination to thwart any efforts to destabilize the region.
The Prime Minister also indirectly referenced the United States, suggesting that Washington may have been eyeing St. Martin’s Island, a small island in the southernmost part of Bangladesh. However, a spokesperson for the US Department of State previously denied any intentions of taking control of the island.
Sheikh Hasina accused the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of plotting against the election process. Despite the challenges and conspiracies she faces, Sheikh Hasina remains resolute in her commitment to maintaining stability and security in the region.
