During a press conference in Montego Bay, Bartlett emphasized the vital role of the Jamaican people in the tourism sector and outlined the government’s efforts to support and empower them.

Bartlett highlighted initiatives such as linking small farmers with the tourism industry, upskilling and certifying thousands of tourism workers, and providing retirement benefits and housing for industry employees. The Tourism Innovation Incubator and Tourism Linkages Network events were also praised for fostering entrepreneurship and marketing opportunities for local businesses.

The minister underscored the importance of resilience in the face of challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, citing the establishment of the Global Tourism Resilient Centre to assist destinations worldwide in crisis management. Bartlett also shared the success of the Jamaica Centre for Tourism Innovation, with over 3,000 candidates achieving certification in the past year.
